When Pyrrha Threw the Tiger's Eye
Nurielle Stern

November 14 – 28, 2026

Employing a riotous and wild alchemy of materials, Toronto-based artist Nurielle Stern welcomes us into a tactile, amorphous space where images and objects dissolve and recombine. Integrating steel with porcelain, raw clay, kiln-cast glass, and natural mica, Stern creates dense networks of organic textures that congeal on each surface to encrust and inhabit hybrid figurative structures. These new works explore monstrous female forms and other human/non-human entanglements in cultural representation.

In her sculptural practice, Stern uses ceramic materials to evoke an archaeological imaginary. Her work engages with ecocritical ideas, exploring the ways in which folktales, myths, and historical forms of visual storytelling continue to haunt our relationship to the natural world.
