Soft Space

Yueyang Wang

September 5th - September 26th, 2026

Opening reception: September 5th 2026, 3pm-7pm

SOFT SPACE presents a new body of paintings by Yueyang Wang that explores the quiet landscapes of our mental, emotional, and spiritual lives. Through contemplative imagery, Wong invites viewers into moments of stillness and introspection, offering a gentle pause from the pace of everyday life. The exhibition considers how softness can become a space for reflection, healing, and connection, encouraging us to navigate the balance between our external world and inner sense of peace.

Wang's paintings unfold like contemporary folk tales, timeless narratives suspended between memory, dream, and imagination. Built through richly textured surfaces and an earthy palette of red clay, deep browns, and soft whites, each work evokes a sense of place that feels both ancient and deeply personal. The tactile quality of the paint lends the works a physical presence, as though each image has been slowly unearthed from the earth or recalled from a distant memory.

Populated by minimal, anonymous figures, Wang's compositions resist fixed identities or cultural specificity. Instead, these characters function as universal archetypes, allowing viewers to project their own experiences and emotions onto the scenes. Their quiet gestures and shared presence speak to collective experiences of vulnerability, belonging, solitude, and care, creating a visual language that transcends individual narratives.
